The film was great! And so many underwater scenes too! Knowing that Jason Statham was once a swimmer before he started acting was even better! 170.00 pesos worth spending indeed!
The film was the sequel to the 2011 The Mechanic starring Jason Statham as “The Mechanic”, a professional hitman known for methods of killing high-profile people and making them look like accidents. If you haven’t heard of the film yet, the see the trailers for both films below.
Mechanic: Ressurection, follows the story of how Arthur Bishop (Jason Statham) goes back from the dead to complete 3 kills for his former “brother” in his orphan days, Crain, an old enemy (Sam Hazeldine). Crain kidnaps the woman (Jessica Alba) he loves and in order to save her life, Bishop must kill an imprisoned African warlord, a human trafficker, and an arms dealer, all while making the deaths look like accidents. When things don’t go exactly as planned, Bishop turns the tables on the people who forced him out of retirement.
The film starts with him, being ‘found’ from an apparently hard ‘finding’ and he was tasked to kill 3 people but he refused and a fight emerges. He wins, (of course) and escapes to his place back in Thailand to his friend, May (A reference to the prequel). It is there that he meets Gina Thornton, played by Jessica Alba and the plot thickens.
Armed with the same skill as he had in “The Mechanic”, Arthur Bishop was set to kill the three people as planned. And man! I tell you! For a minute there, I actually thought the film would have been the same old boring cliche, but no. First 2 minutes in and boom! Fight scene! Call me what you will but I am a huge fan of close combat and very fast-paced (and I do mean very) storylines. The film had me gripping my chair, literally. Well, that was partly because this was what I wore when I went in:
This movie date with myself was unplanned, after all. Halfway through the film, the pizza box I had with me even dived to the floor! It was a good thing only one slice was left, though. But I felt bad for the pizza. HAHA!
The film had many underwater scenes and I loved that the film had a lot of settings. (e.g. Thailand and Australia) and the cinematography was great too! Who would not love a very hot hitman break through high-level prisons and kill heavily guarded criminals all on his own? And it’s Jason Statham! I mean, who wouldn’t love the guy? The film was such a blast and had humor, too! Tommy-Lee Jones back as an eccentric arms-dealer. MIB fan, anyone? In his first kill, he even managed to make the ‘dude’ look like he was praying in such a short period of time! The planning scenes were, for me, greatly executed too.
However, if I were to judge it objectively, it does not feel at par with the other Jason Statham films and certainly not as great as the original (Oh, yes, “The Mechanic” was a remake).
For one, it was like a Bond movie, Jessica Alba had not enough parts for a damsel distress and Mei! My god, Mei! I actually expected her to have a fight scene of her own!
Gotta hand it to director Dennis Gansel, too. Congratulations on his Hollywood debut! All in all, I would say, that though for most of the action-lovng fans out there, this film’s plot might be a bit “like the others” but I for one, will watch it once again. It is definitely worth a rewatch. Hoping for a part 3, as always.
But for now, as far as Jason Statham is concerned, I guess I might just wait for Fast and Furious’s next franchise.
FILM: Mechanic: Resolution
You sure enjoyed yourself. Action filled movies are the bomb, I mean that adrenaline gotta get out somehow.👍

Your post title made me laugh. Hahah. You know you’re only further strengthening the stereotype that all Filipinos love action movies. When I used to work at Blockbuster in high school there would always be these Filipino families who would come in when I was there just to ask me for action recommendations. I remember one mother who used to always call Jason Statham her ‘other husband’! I admit though, even before your stellar job of reviewing the film I was going to watch it. I just wish my movies were as cheap as yours! Only $4USD! *sighs* I miss the theatres in the Philippines.

Hha! Action films are a must in my movie list! But then again, action film or not, as long as it’s Jason Statham, I’d watch it. (In reference to last year’s Spy) Really? I always kinda thought Filipinos loved the ‘cliche love stories’. I think those who love action films are those who belong to my father’s age range. Haha!
Meh. I wish the theatres here showcase more indie films from the Philippines. I enjoy foreign films, but I do think the Filipino craft of filmmaking is not fully advertised in the country.
Hah! Like I always say, the cheapness depends on your current balance. Haha! If you do decide to watch it, I hope you’d enjoy it.

Have you seen him in Snatch? He’s great there.
Filipinos love watching action films. But they love MAKING super cheesy love films! Oh my god. My Big Love! A Thing Called Tadhana. Dear lord those movies. Hahah. I did love Magnifico and Metro Manila though. And Ang Tanging Ina is a guilty pleasure comedy for me. I definitely do think there’s some great potential in Filipino films.
Oh yeah, true. It’s all about perspective.

No. I haven’t. I am searching! Right now! HAHA!
Yes, god those films. Blech.
The indie films are great, however. Ironic, really. Tsk. It’s saddening. You should try watching On the Job and Honor Thy Father. Yes, perspective is all there is.

Oh and don’t worry I’m definitely watching it and maybe just to coincide with yours I’ll write a review as well. I’m just waiting another week because I like empty theatres.

Cool! I will look forward to it.

Train to Busan is showing here too! I plan on watching that as well. I think the movies on my watch list currently are Tunnel (American title for Train to Busan because well, who in America knows where the hell Busan is, hahah), Morgan, Mechanic, Don’t Breathe, Secret Life of Pets, and tomorrow I am seeing and will definitely review Kubo!

Perspective! One of my favorite things to do when I go back to the Philippines is spend entire days in the theatres. For me it’s like nickel movies. Traveling in Asia is one of the last places in the world where I can feel like a king with my USD. But I wish the theatres had melted butter, not butter powder. I took my cousins to a theatre here for the first time and they were so confused by it but by the end they had gotten a cup and were DUNKING the popcorn in it! Hahah.
Well, interesting AND expressive. With lots to say and a captivating way to say it. I find most accountants to be very restrained. I won’t tell them you’re dishing gossip about them daily. Hahah. Joke.

The things you can do in the Philippines with USD! PLENTY. HAHA! Aww, too bad. For me, if the film is good, really good, I almost always only buy a drink or two because I could never get around to getting another bite if I am hooked! Haha!
Wow! What a hilarious experience that must have been. Good for your cousins, though. A great first time in the movies in another country. Awesome!

Really? Interesting. I go to dine-in theatres sometimes and it’s nice to be able to have a cocktail and a meal while watching. There’s a really fancy one that just opened up nearby with like, regularly featured celebrity chefs. I just have to make sure not to get anything crispy or fried or else the chewing will drown out the audio. Hahah.

Yes, really. I watched a Filipino film once, Bonifacio, and I didn’t even finish one biscuit! Haha! Talk about being fully engrossed in a film! That’s me!

You really do like your indie Filipino historical movies huh.
I need something to snack on usually. Popcorn is great but you’re right. I’ll finish most during the trailers. Munch during the beginning. But by the climax it’s either finished or I’m finished with it and it sits to the side so I can be engrossed in the film. Though also because I don’t like the sound of eating during movies. So I take big bite when I can during action scenes and then nothing during dialogue.

What is wrong with you? I just ate! Now I am hungry! HAHA!
Yes. If I were to rank my preferences, historical fiction, crime fiction, mystery and suspense, and everything else; and all must have at least an action scene! HAHA! That’s tiring! Having to pause at certain points because the actors are talking. I don’t eat during ths fight scenes! My eyes get even bigger and I pay even more attention! Fight scenes are all I look forward too, I guess. Other than the witty parts of the films. Haha!

You’re in the land of late night foods! Finding something to eat shouldn’t be too hard. Whereas I don’t like eating at work so I have to wait five more hours before I get to have my first bite of the day.
So do you like punch the air too along with the actors and go ‘hyah’ and ‘hwoo’. Hahah. Then exit the theatre with a flying kick ‘hacha’.
Recently I have been getting into the what I call ‘slice of life’ movies. Movies that are plausible and just really good captivating unique stories. Then action. Comedy. Horror/suspense. I prefer historical drama over sci-fi and anything over fantasy.

Haha! Whooooa! That’s some fasting routine. I eat all the time. As long as there is food on the table, I will eat it. Slice of life, huh? I do like inspirational films too. Like Dead Poets Society. There are certain sci-fis I like. Fantasy… Not really into it. Except maybe if I have a friend who would recommend it. So…
But I prefer films from the prev years. They all seem so “meaty” when it comes to their plots.
