Song a Day Challenge, Day 1: Northern Downpour

Hey there! It’s been so long! I’m finally a graduate! A couple of days ago, Man nominated me for the Song a Day Challenge. The challenge is to post song lyrics from 5 different songs for 5 days and share the meaning.

And since April is … National Poetry Month… I will share 5 songs that I think are poetic and the lyrics are just as beautiful as its melody. Topping the list is Panic! at the Disco’s Northern Downpour. Northern Downpour is the fourth and final single from the band’s second album; Pretty. Odd. I have been a fan because something about how they got their name intrigued me so I started following them.

Northern Downpour is a song clearly paying attention to its lyrics and the beautiful melody that encompasses it. A lot can be said about the song .. a love ballad, a person’s longing for serenity and his childhood. The metaphors to reality and how sad it can be at times is also a plus for someone so after drama. Haha!

[Verse 1:]
If all our life is but a dream
Fantastic posing greed
Then we should feed our jewelry to the sea
For diamonds do appear to be, just like broken glass to me

And then she said she can’t believe
Genius only comes along in storms of fabled foreign tongues
Tripping eyes and flooded lungs
Northern downpour sends its love

[Chorus 1:]
Hey moon, please forget to fall down
Hey moon, don’t you go down
Sugarcane in the easy morning
Weather vanes my one and lonely

[Verse 2:]
The ink is running toward the page, it’s chasing off the days
Look back at boat feet and that winding knee
I missed your skin when you were east
You clicked your heels and wished for me

Through playful lips made of yarn, that fragile Capricorn
Unraveled words like moths upon old scarves
I know the world’s a broken bone
But melt your headaches call it home

[Chorus 1:]
Hey moon, please forget to fall down
Hey moon, don’t you go down
Sugarcane in the easy morning
Weather vanes my one and lonely

[Bridge:]
Sugarcane in the easy morning
Weather vanes my one and lonely
Sugarcane in the easy morning
Weather vanes my one and lonely
Sugarcane in the easy morning
Weather vanes my one and lonely
Sugarcane in the easy morning
Weather vanes my one and lonely
Sugarcane in the easy morning
Weather vanes my one and lonely
Sugarcane in the easy morning
Weather vanes my one and lonely
Sugarcane in the easy morning
Weather vanes my one and lonely

[Pre-Chorus:]
(You are at the top of my lungs)
(Drawn to the ones who never yawn)

[Chorus 2:]
Hey moon, please forget to fall down
Hey moon, don’t you go down
You are at the top of my lungs
Drawn to the ones who never yawn

And the play on words! I love this song so much!
