The Second Conversation

“I’ve always loved the sea.” He once told me. 

As much as I wanted to stop him from leaving me, I only managed to say, “Congratulations.” 

He hugged me that night. I do not think that we have ever hugged that tightly before.  It seemed as if he never wanted to let go. 

And I do not want him to, honestly.
He reached into his pocket and handed me a turtledove. 

“Keep it. I’ll have mine safe with me everywhere I go, buddy.”
