Title: Remember When?
Dedicated to: August 24, 2015
There we were, talking on the phone
Miles between us — so far, and yet so close
We talk about trivial stuff and laugh
We talk about serious stuff then laugh.
The reality is that I have confessed
The fantasy is that there’d be an “us”.
What seemed so sweet then
Became the topics of “Remember when…”
First call, first night, first hello
First time I heard your voice on stereo
I said, “Goodbye, g’night”
You said, “That’s all?” and I smiled.
Of all the recordings on my phone,
Of all the things you’ve said,
G’night, I love you; is the best.
G’night, I love you; and my name in the end.
If only I had known that —
that night and the succeeding ones won’t matter
I would not have been this hurt
I would not have been this blue.
If only I had foreseen the hurt that —
that call and the subsequent ones won’t matter
I would not have hoped and loved
I would not have smiled and remembered.
Because now, the days pass by
And I remember your words
Now the days pass by and I —
I remember you saying “I love you”.
